220658 is Hypertherm's 200A bevel shield for the HPRXD plasma torch family. High-purity copper body , precision-machined to sit in the mid-stack position between the nozzle retaining cap (220845) and the shield cap (220637) in the bevel torch configuration . Its primary function is protective: it takes the brunt of the sparks and fallout from the angled cutting process so that wear to other parts — especially the precision bevel nozzle (220659) and bevel electrode (220662) — is minimized . This sacrificial design is what makes the shield a consumable: it is engineered to absorb the damage that would otherwise destroy far more expensive components deeper in the torch. During bevel cutting, the plasma arc is deflected at an angle, which fundamentally alters the thermal and spatter dynamics — the 220658's geometry is specifically engineered to manage these forces, maintaining proper secondary shielding gas flow for stable arc performance and clean bevel edges .

For 200A straight cutting on HPRXD, the correct shield is 220761; on legacy HPR130/HPR260, the 200A straight shield is 220356 . Using 220658 for straight cutting — or 220761/220356 for 200A bevel — will cause torch malfunction and premature consumable failure.

• Must be used as a complete set: Per Thermacut/AMMC engineering guidance, shield (220658) + shield cap (220637) + inner retaining cap (220845) must be replaced together as a complete interchangeable set . The three components are geometrically interdependent — mixing a worn component with new ones will degrade cut quality and shorten the life of all three.

A worn 220658 shield will accelerate wear on the expensive 220659 nozzle and 220662 electrode beneath it.
