High-purity copper alloy (C14500 tellurium copper) body , precision-machined to sit between the nozzle retaining cap (220757) and the shield cap (220637) . Shield 220356 / 200A Shield for HPR Series – HALANSM®
220356 is Hypertherm's 200A shield for the HPR plasma torch family. High-purity copper alloy (C14500 tellurium copper) body , precision-machined to sit in the mid-stack position between the nozzle retaining cap (220757) and the shield cap (220637) . Its primary function is protective: it takes the brunt of the sparks and fallout from the cutting process so that wear to other parts — especially the precision nozzle and electrode — is minimized . This sacrificial design is what makes the shield a consumable: it is engineered to absorb the damage that would otherwise destroy far more expensive components deeper in the torch .

200A shield for HPR130 / HPR260: 220356 is the primary 200A shield for the legacy HPR130 and HPR260 plasma systems . It is also cross-compatible with HPR260XD / HPRXD series machines per EGP Sales .
NOT a shield cap: 220356 is the shield (mid-stack protective sleeve around the nozzle). The shield cap that screws on top is 220637 (80–400A HPRXD) on HPRXD-class machines . Both are required for a complete 200A stack — do not confuse the two.
Sacrificial protection component: The whole purpose of the 220356 is to take the brunt of the sparks and fallout, minimizing wear to the inner nozzle and electrode . A worn shield will cause spatter to reach the nozzle, leading to premature nozzle failure and degraded cut quality.
200A-only: 220356 is rated 200A. Running it at 260A will cause premature shield blow-out. For reference, the HPRXD 260A shield is 220764; 400A shield is 220636.
Change as a set: Per Hypertherm's guidance, HPR consumables interact synergistically — replace electrode + swirl + nozzle + retaining cap + shield + shield cap together for peak cut quality and life .
