The nozzle is the single most important factor in determining cut quality: it constricts the shield gas stream and focuses the plasma arc into a high-velocity, high-density cutting beam that melts through metal with minimal dross .

80A MS nozzle, one part number crosses BOTH platforms: 220188 fits the older HPR130/HPR260 AND the newer HPR130XD/HPR260XD/HPR400XD/HPR800XD identically, plus HD3070/HD4070 machine torches . The 80A mild steel nozzle is platform-agnostic at the 80A level.
Conical Flow™ orifice geometry: The HALANSM 220188 replicates Hypertherm's conical orifice profile — a precision-machined converging-diverging bore that accelerates the plasma gas to supersonic velocities for a tight, focused arc . Wrong orifice geometry (generic round bore) causes arc wander, wide kerf, excessive dross, and rapid electrode wear.
NOT for stainless/aluminum at 80A: 220188 is the mild steel nozzle. For stainless steel or aluminum cutting at similar amperages, a different nozzle/gas combination (typically H35/N2 or H35/F5) is required per Hypertherm's process guidelines.
Change as a set: Per Hypertherm's guidance, HPR consumables interact synergistically — replace electrode + swirl + nozzle + retaining cap + shield + shield cap together for peak cut quality and life. A worn nozzle will destroy a brand-new electrode within minutes.
