Volcanic ash ceramic body, clockwise gas-flow orientation, precision-machined tangential inlet ports that impart a high-velocity vortex to the plasma gas . This vortex is what constricts and stabilizes the arc, creates a cooler boundary layer along the nozzle wall to prevent double-arcing, and centers the arc for square, symmetrical cuts . 50A MS swirl, one part number crosses ALL HPR machines: 220553 fits HPR130, HPR260, HPR130XD, HPR260XD, HPR400XD, HPR800XD, HD3070, HD4070 identically . The only differences in the 50A stack are the shield cap on top (220747 on HPRXD-class, 220173 on HPR130/260-class) and water tube (220340) — the swirl ring itself is universal.
Clockwise gas orientation: 220553 is the clockwise-flow swirl ring for the 50A mild steel application . Installing it backwards (counterclockwise orientation) will not produce the correct vortex — always match the "CW" orientation marking.
NOT a generic ceramic ring: The volcanic ash ceramic body + high-temp O-rings are precision-CNC-machined to exact port angle, size, and surface finish . Generic rings with wrong port geometry will cause arc wander, double-arcing, and premature nozzle failure .
