220436 is Hypertherm's 260A swirl ring for the HPR plasma torch family. Constructed from ceramic / lava material , it is precision-machined with internal helical vanes that perform one of the most critical functions in the entire plasma cutting process: spinning the plasma gas into a controlled vortex . This swirling action stabilizes the plasma column gyroscopically — much like a bullet's rifling — reducing arc deflection, improving cut perpendicularity, and dramatically extending the service life of the downstream electrode and nozzle .

Why the Swirl Ring Matters

The swirl ring sits at the heart of the HPR 260A consumable stack, directly between the electrode (220435) and the nozzle (220439). Its helical vanes impart rotational momentum to the plasma gas as it flows from the electrode toward the nozzle orifice. This rotation delivers three critical benefits:
