Shield 220761 / 200A Mild Steel Shield for HPRXD Series – HALANSM®

220761 is Hypertherm's 200A mild steel shield for the HPRXD plasma torch family. High-grade tellurium copper (C14500) body with anti-spatter surface treatment , precision-machined to sit in the mid-stack position between the nozzle retaining cap (220757) and the shield cap (220637) . Its primary function is protective: it takes the brunt of the sparks and fallout from the cutting process so that wear to other parts — especially the precision nozzle and electrode — is minimized . This sacrificial design is what makes the shield a consumable: it is engineered to absorb the damage that would otherwise destroy far more expensive components deeper in the torch. Additionally, the 220761's precision O-ring groove ensures proper secondary shielding gas flow, which is essential for stable arc performance and clean, dross-free cuts at 200A .

• 200A MS shield for HPRXD high-amperage torches: 220761 is the primary 200A mild steel shield for HPR260XD, HPR400XD, HPR800XD . It also fits HPR130XD / HPR130 when those machines are upgraded with an HPRXD torch . SJ Smith's catalog additionally lists 220761 for HPR260, HPR130, and HD3070/HD4070 plasma torches , but the core HPRXD 200A application is HPR260XD/HPR400XD/HPR800XD.

• NOT a shield cap: 220761 is the shield (mid-stack protective sleeve around the nozzle). The shield cap that screws on top is 220637 (200A-400A standard / all-amperage bevel) . Both are required for a complete 200A stack — do not confuse the two.

• Must be used as a set: Per Thermacut/AMMC engineering guidance, shield (220761) + shield cap (220637) + inner retaining cap (220757) must be replaced together as a complete interchangeable set . Mixing a worn shield with new cap and retaining cap — or vice versa — will degrade cut quality and shorten the life of all three components.

• Tellurium copper with anti-spatter treatment: The HALANSM 220761 is machined from C14500 tellurium copper and treated with an anti-spatter surface finish . This combination maximizes thermal conductivity for rapid heat dissipation while minimizing molten metal adhesion, significantly extending service life compared to untreated standard copper shields.

• 200A-only: 220761 is rated 200A mild steel. Running it at 260A will cause premature shield blow-out. Correct shields by amp: 130A = 220183, 260A = 220764, 400A = 220636.

• Change as a set: Per Hypertherm's guidance, HPR consumables interact synergistically — replace electrode + swirl + nozzle + retaining cap + shield + shield cap together for peak cut quality and life .

NOTE: 220761 = 200A MS shield. Primary fit: HPR260XD/HPR400XD/HPR800XD. Also fits HPR130XD/HPR130 with HPRXD torch upgrade. Shield cap pairing: 200A-400A standard / all-amperage bevel → 220637.
