As the critical inner locking component of the bevel torch, the 220740 performs three vital functions simultaneously:
Mechanical Lock: Screws over the bevel nozzle (220646 @130A / 220542 @260A), locking the entire inner consumable stack — electrode + swirl ring + nozzle — into perfect axial alignment .
Shield Positioning: Seats and positions the bevel shield (220742 @130A / 220741 @260A) in the correct standoff geometry for angled cutting .
Coolant Seal: Its precision O-ring groove provides the sealing surface for the shield cap (220637), ensuring leak-proof coolant flow from the water tube (220700 @130A / 220571 @260A) .

NOT for HPR800XD 260A bevel: The HPR800XD uses a different 260A bevel set — retaining cap 220896 + nozzle 220898 + electrode 220899 + shield 220897 . 220740 is for HPR130XD/HPR260XD/HPR400XD only . If you are running an HPR800XD, you need the 220896 family, not 220740.
NOT for 80A/200A bevel: Those use 220845 as the inner retaining cap . 220740 is strictly the 130A & 260A bevel component.
NOT for straight cutting: 220740 is a bevel-specific component. For 130A/260A straight cutting, the correct retaining caps are different standard parts (130A = 220756-family, 260A = 220760). 220740's internal geometry is engineered for the bevel nozzle's angled profile.
Must be used as a complete set: Per Thermacut engineering guidance, shield (220742@130A / 220741@260A) + shield cap (220637) + inner retaining cap (220740) must be replaced together as a complete interchangeable set . Mixing a worn shield with a new retaining cap — or vice versa — will cause torch malfunction, arc instability, and premature failure of all three components.
Knurled grip for tool-free installation: The HALANSM 220740 features the same knurled grip collar as OEM Hypertherm 220740, allowing for hand-tight installation and removal without tools, while guaranteeing a leak-proof seal for the coolant path .
Change as a set: Per Hypertherm's guidance, HPR consumables interact synergistically — replace electrode + swirl + nozzle + retaining cap + shield + shield cap together for peak cut quality and life .
NOTE: 220740 = Bevel Nozzle Retaining Cap for 130A & 260A bevel on HPR130XD/HPR260XD/HPR400XD. Material: Copper. HPR800XD 260A bevel uses 220896 (not 220740). Must be used as a complete set with 220742(@130A)/220741(@260A) shield + 220637 shield cap. HALANSM 220740 is an aftermarket compatible replacement, not Hypertherm OEM.
